The Secretary General of the East African Community Amb. Dr. Richard Sezibera is in Washington, DC, USA, to participate in several activities geared towards promoting East Africa’s trade and investment opportunities to the private sector and investment communities in the United States of America.
At the invitation of Amb. Dr. Jendayi Frazer, the Secretary General is expected today (4th August) to participate in the famous Roundtable Series at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, DC, under the theme East Africa’s Economic Rise. The roundtable will be attended by US’s Africa experts, former/current government officials, regional experts from the private sector, think tanks, and academics.
At the invitation of the President of the Eastern Africa Diaspora Business Council (EADBC), Mr. Benedict Kazora, the Secretary General will be the Guest Speaker on the theme: Business Opportunities in East Africa at the Doing Business in East Africa Forum on 5 August 2014 that is being organized by the EADBC in partnership with Maryland State’s Department of Business and Economic Development, and Prince George’s County Africa Trade Office.
The Forum will be attended by US government agencies, US corporations and investors seeking business opportunities in East Africa.
Amb. Sezibera will also co–host with The United States Chamber of Commerce, the East Africa Exchange and the Whitaker Group, a very high level breakfast meeting themed Regional Investment and Growth Opportunities: A Discussion with East African Heads of State on 7 August 2014 at the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC.
This important discussion will focus on emerging opportunities in the regional bloc and the EAC Heads of State are expected to attend. Others to attend include Private Equity and Investment leaders in the US with more than US$ 200 billion assets under management, and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) leaders. A few African private sector leaders will also participate in the high level discussion.
The Secretary General will be attending the US-Africa leaders’ Summit that has been called by US President Barack Obama. The 4-day event is taking place in Washington DC from 4 to 7 August 2014. The US-Africa Summit is expected to focus on issues of trade and investment. The Summit will also serve as a forum at which the United State of America will underline its commitment to the African continent and its people, democracy and security.
